Title

2005 Massaya Classic Red, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon

Region
Variety
Bekaa Valley
Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Mouvedre
The wines of Massaya are the result of a partnership between brothers Ramzi and Sami Ghosn and Daniel Brunier (of Domaine Vieux Telegraphe) and imports to the UK are steadily growing, testament as much to the deliciousness of the wines as to the public’s growing interest in wines from unusual places.

These vineyards are at an altitude of 1000meters in the Bekaa Valley which is free of both frosts and diseases and is somewhat of a paradise for growing grapes.  The summers are long and not too hot and the winters are wet – just what the vine doctor ordered.  The happiness of the grapes which make up this wine is, we think, evident in the deliciously ripe, red and black berry fruit.  It does not show funky, animal character like some wines from here, but there is ample leather, spice, tobacco and even a hint of coffee/chocolate to give depth to the juicy fruit.  This is not their top wine and is packed full of flavour but not too heavy.
