Last week was my annual pilgrimage into the
heart of the lair of the beast – or Credit Suisse in Canary Wharf. And to be fair, Credit Suisse are not really beastly. The groups I do tastings for there are always
absolutely lovely and nothing at all like some of the other groups of bankers I
periodically have dealings with.
Too many of these are comprised of individuals who have no issues at all with self esteem. Quite the opposite – they exhibit impressive levels of self belief and confidence in their abilities. This makes tastings with them an exercise in self control on my part but luckily I am pretty good at that.
So Friday’s was a very splendid tasting,
featuring some amazing wines. Our new
and very natural Australian Syrah was the least successful – farmyard funk was
not the order of the day – but then the equally natural Gevrey from Pacalet went down an absolute
treat and was tasting extraordinarily good.
Silky and bursting with perfume.
On the white front, our new Binner Kaefferkopf from Alsace was actually very well received
despite the dollop of residual sugar which all too often scares people away. Not this intrepid group. Why can’t they all be like this?
So finally, in tribute to the Bankers who are not quite as civilized, interested and great fun to be around, have a look at another of our brand new listings :-
