With an understated, slightly shabby charm, Green & Blue is perhaps the purest example of the new generation of wine shop/bar/cafes.
One room has a small deli counter, together with the shelves of wine for retail, while the other has the equally small bar and the majority of seating. The wine list isn't huge, but there's a lot to love. Owner Kate Thal has done an excellent job in making her selections, which combine big name super stars with some oddities and new discoveries. Emile Heredia's Domaine de Montrieux, Petillant Naturel 'Boisson Rouge' falls squarely in the latter category; a joyously sparkling Loire red, it's a wine that defies classification but bursts with exuberant summer fruit. The food is an exercise in good sourcing with paninis, salads and some platters of cheese and cured meats. In a neat inversion of the usual corkage fee, for £3 you can bring your own food , and staff will bring plates and cutlery.
We wish every high street had a place like this
