Meals at our favourite restaurant are off until they sort out their fish situation. Sigh. By Kate
Terrible news recently. Sheekeys is going to have to be off our list ‘most favourite places in London’ for the foreseeable future.
They are, along with Nobu, one of the worst offenders among restaurants serving fish which are seriously endangered. I heard about Nobu a while ago but didn’t feel any great pangs of regret. Their refusal to remove Bluefin tuna is so incredibly distasteful that even if I had had any longing to go on a regular basis (I did not), it would have instantly vanished.
Imagine if some where started serving panda burgers? Well, bluefin sushi amounts to pretty much the same thing.
But beloved Sheekey’s! That is truly the worst sort of news. Not that we would have been back for quite a while but still. It is the knowing that we no longer could, on an insane, financially reckless whim, swan in for a spot of late night dinner if we so chose that is terribly hard to live with.
If anyone who reads this has anything at all to do with the running of Sheekey’s, can you please sort it out and start sourcing sustainable fish? As someone who can hardly ever afford to eat there, I implore you to do something about this.
