2005 Arnaud Ente Meursault, Burgundy, France
Region
Variety
Burgundy
Chardonnay
Arnaud Ente is brother to Benoit, an eminent Puligny-Montrachet producer, and both are known for their fantastic wines. Arnaud has only 4.7 hectares of vines (about 2 acres) which he leases from his father-in-law and perhaps it is the focus which that gives him that contributes to the remarkable quality he consistently achieves. He started out making a much more opulent, rich style of Meursault but has recently moved towards wines which are slightly leaner and more elegant with definite mineral notes. A good proportion of premier Cru grapes are used for this, so it is quite a few steps above an average village Meursault. Expect flavours of lemon cream and spice with a gravel/smoke edge.
Good With
Lobster, crab, white fish and chicken, particularly in creamy sauces.
